Can we Colonize Space?

There are many different opinions on space colonization. There are scientists who are fascinated by the subject and are researching ways to colonize, and there are others who do not think it is reasonable. At this point in time, I don’t see how it is possible to colonize another place in outer space. There are too many factors that go into starting a new colony somewhere, and it is not plausible. We don’t have the technology to start life over in a whole new place that does not have easy access to supplies. Not only does the accessibility to essential supplies play an important role in colonizing space, so does transportation. Currently, it costs a fortune to just send people into space once. The amount of trips needed to bring all of the equipment to make life sustainable and humans to repopulate, would be astronomical and that is even if the price per space trip decreases in the future. Even if technology advanced enough to transport all of the supplies and people needed to start a colony, humans have evolved from their old survival ways and currently would not be able to thrive in a brand new land without anything. Humans are used to having many luxuries on earth readily available to them, it would be difficult for humans to start a new life somewhere other than earth because everything would not be done for them. This new colonization would have to figure out how to get food, communication, money, jobs, and leisure activities that they are all so used to having easy access to. Humans nowadays are not fit to survive that way. We don’t know how to fend for ourselves because we rely too much on technology. Also we underestimate the psychological effects this will have on the first group of humans to live in this new colony. These humans would experience a drastic life change. Most will lose their support system, like their friends and family. Also, our world today is extremely connected by the means of technology and social media. In space, they will most likely not have access to the same social media as people on earth because they would be so far away. As we have seen in this past year, humans are not meant to be isolated from one another, and starting a colony in space is going to isolate those first groups of people from the rest of the world. Overall, humans were not made to live on any other planet besides earth and it is not reasonable to waste time and money on space colonization.
