I Just Knew Something Was Wrong

February 7th, 2020 started out a night just like all others. I had a swim team dinner at my school to prepare for our big meet the next day. When I came home from the team dinner, I found my dad sprinting out of the house, into the garage, and back into the house. Concerned there was a fire in my house I raced inside. I looked all around, but there were no signs of any fires. I wandered into our family room concerned about why my dad ran into the garage. In the family room, I found my dad holding one of my dogs, and my mom holding the other, trying to push them closer together. Kelsea’s chain collar was stuck on one of the teeth in Paisley’s mouth. Paisley was panicking and trying to pull away from Kelsea, this caused Kelsea’s collar to get tighter around her neck. My dad was trying to unhook the dogs, while my mom pushed them closer together. By the time my dad had freed Kelsea’s collar from Paisley’s mouth, Kelsea was dead and had no heartbeat. My dad immediately started doing CPR on the dog, in hopes of her regaining a heartbeat. After about a minute or so of doing the CPR, my dad informed us that she had regained a faint heartbeat. My mom and dad ran Kelsea out to the car and raced to the hospital. The doctors took Kelsea in and gave her medication to keep her stable. The doctors told my parents that my dad saved Kelsea’s life by giving her CPR and she would have died without him doing that. My brother and I stayed at home with Paisley to calm her down from this traumatizing experience. After examining her and making sure she was ok, I discovered she had lost a front tooth, but nothing else was hurt. The lesson my family learned that day and will always remember is to always be calm in a crisis because it could just save a life.
