Is Space Our Future?

The world that we know has existed for billions of years and we expect to continue living in this world for billions more. No major catastrophic events within the lifespan of all humans on earth has allowed us to live somewhat peacefully our entire existence. The issue is: resources, possible catastrophic events, overpopulation, and many other important, but smaller things. Humans are beginning to use certain resources at a ridiculous rate due to the increase in human life on earth and simply innovation. One realistic idea, hopefully in the centuries to come, would be the colonization of space.

Colonizing space does not even sound realistic right now but that is what everyone probably thought about cars and phones a couple hundred years ago. The human race is in our hands from what we know and we need to prepare for the future. Through colonizing space, we could prepare for a possible catastrophic natural disaster that is theoretically bound to happen in the future, we just will never know when. Finding new ways to live on these planets in our solar system or somehow finding a planet in which humans could survive on, would prepare us for the inconceivable event that could happen in the future.

Another issue on earth is that not all necessary resources to keep inventing and innovating are renewable. Earth will run out of resources and it is just a matter of time, and up above, there is practically an unlimited supply of resources, some we have never even been introduced too yet. These resources can come from the planets, the sun, asteroids, and anything physical up in space. Not only will these resources assist in life on earth but they could also help in the further exploration in space. If people knew we could find certain resources up in space, more money would be invested into space colonization which would lead to more exploration.

Overpopulation is what could be coming first. The rate of growth of human population has really only increased over time. This is likely to continue and eventually life on earth will be very difficult for too many people. Space colonization would allow for growth not only on earth but on new colonies in space, so that humans can continue to repopulate and grow.

Space colonization is very important for reasons such as these. We have no idea when any of these issues will definitely occur, but what we do know is that at some point they will all most likely happen. Colonization would prevent a lot of these from erasing human life that we know, and would allow us to continue to grow and innovate to hopefully one day find out what is further and further out in the universe. We, the only humans we know exist, need to prepare our species for the future and not just think about the present. The future is in our hands and if we do not push for the colonization of space now, then as soon as tomorrow we could be running out of time.
