Every four years when a presidential election takes place, the votes casted by millions of Americans are counted, but not in the way that you may believe. Their votes don’t go directly to the candidate that they voted for, instead they provide a sort of “outline” for who they want to see the elector in the electoral college who represents them vote for. This method of an indirect vote was created as a compromise between the founding fathers while debating on what the most effective way was to conduct a presidential election. Go to this link for more on its history.
This method of using an electoral college and having an indirect vote has produced 5 elections throughout history where the winner received the needed 270 electoral votes, however received fewer popular votes. This has brought many people including myself to view our current electoral college system as an inaccurate way to represent the

US people’s views in a presidential election. However, in order to completely get rid of the electoral college there would need to be a constitutional amendment because it was written into the constitution by the founding fathers. This process is nearly impossible and has been done very few times.
Therefore, the best way to change our current electoral college system is to implement the district system in all states. This system is already put into place in Maine, and Nebraska which means that it is definitely possible for other states to adopt this system. Visit this link and this link in order to get a better understanding of how this process works in Maine and Nebraska during a presidential election.
The district system would be the best plan to be put into place in order to make a compromise between keeping and getting rid of the electoral college. With this system in place among all states it will allow for elections to more accurately represent the diverse views of the US population, and allows your vote to count more since the voting will be done in smaller groups of people. The district system would also allow candidates to receive electoral votes that they have earned in states where the election is very close.
If you believe that the current electoral college system put into place is unfair, then you should push to create change. How presidential elections work is very important for every American's life because you are choosing who you want to lead the country you live in for the next four years. It is very important for you to have power in an election, and get your voice heard, so you are able to express your opinions on where you want to see your country go in the future. Overall, the current electoral college system in place is outdated, and must be changed in order to fit the modern and diverse views of the people that it represents.
