Don’t Be Afraid of Change

Growing up I had gone to the same school for my entire life. This school had grades from kindergarten to eighth grade. During this time I got to know everyone really well, and they got to know me. It was a small school with only around sixty-five to seventy kids in my class. From kindergarten to eighth grade would be in total nine years. That’s nine years growing up and making friends and memories with the same people, at least it was until graduation rolled around and we all were deciding where to go.

After I had gotten all the answers back from the schools I had applied to I was working on making a decision. By this time it was late into summer and nearing the beginning of highschool. One day driving back home from work and my dad gets a call saying I got accepted into the school he liked that I was on wait;ist for because I was outside their district, and I kid you not nearly crashed the car! We talked it over and I decided that I would attend this school for my four years of highschool. The name of the school I would be attending was the Delaware Military Academy.

So, very soon I would be going to school at Military Academy. Growing up it never even crossed my mind that I would be attending some military school. I had no idea what to expect. I was in a whole new element. Luckily there were a few people from my old school who went including one of my close friends. This made it seem easier to adjust to. After a while though I really got to see the benefits of this school and type of environment.

Every friday we had physical training and we went out as a platoon, which created a good sense of comradery among everyone. This school also highly encouraged us to pursue leadership roles and to require it in some cases, which would later on be beneficial to many of us. The school wasn’t massive and the military aspect definitely created a sense of community and made me able to meet lots of awesome people and make tons of new friends.

Even in the normal class aspect of it I had tons of fun and definitely had lots of funny and interesting moments. I even got to have gym class three years in a row, most people only get 1 gym class and if they are really lucky two, but I was one of the very rare few who got it three times and got to just basically hang out with my friends and play games everyday for a class from sophomore through senior year. I got to make lots of memories and friends that I would never have if I hadn’t decided to have gone to this school and just goes to show you that you shouldn’t be afraid to make a change in your life because you never know how amazing it might turn out if you didn’t try it.
