Heart pounding, stomach twisting, thoughts racing were all too common occurrences. Constant unsettled feelings characterized most of my childhood. It seemed like my whole younger life had been controlled by my anxiety. Everything I’d do and everywhere I went, it followed me. Anxiety is extremely common amongst kids today, but often, it goes unnoticed, or people don’t take it seriously. Everyone has different kinds of anxiety and different levels of anxiety. Growing up, I had separation anxiety when I left my family, and the simplest tasks like going to school caused a panic. I still can’t explain why I would feel so nervous and felt like something would happen to my family or me when I was away from them. I constantly felt uneasy, and eventually, just the thought of leaving would freak me out itself. I wrote my essay describing my anxiety and how I overcame it, It wasn’t easy for me, but in the end, it made me stronger and taught me many lessons growing up. Not everyone understands how crippling anxiety can be, so I wanted to describe a little bit of my experience. My anxiety forced me to overcome so much at a young age, and I feel like I have the ability to conquer anything. I refuse to let my mind diminish me, define me, or hold me back anymore because I have already felt enough defeat for one lifetime. In the end, it's only made me stronger and better prepared for my future.
