Watching your friends get into sticky situations is usually hilarious. But when they get kicked out of a house after a school event you sometimes wonder what goes inside their head. Many things could be guessed as to why he got kicked out. As always context is key to this story. It is very ironic how one harmless text managed to set one of the best nights in my time in high school. Everything from the beginning to the end was nothing but a bumpy ride.
At the beginning of our junior year, my best friends and I were not thinking about having prom dates or prom itself. Come mid February, Chase develops a crush on a girl named Julia. She agreed to go to prom with him if he could find a date for her friend as well. Out of everyone in our friend group, only one was left without an agreed prom date. At my high school we were allowed to bring one outside guest to dances. Julia wanted to bring one of her friends and not wanting to be a third wheel, I volunteered Hayden. After being hesitant Hayden ultimately relented. To this day, he regrets ever saying yes to Chase and I.
While all of us in the group had some experience with “talking” with people, Hayden was completely new to the situation. At first Julia’s friend Maggie and Hayden were going well. They talked back and forth after school and got to know each other. Now this is the part of the story where everything starts to fall apart. Hayden developed a crush on Maggie and it seemed fine from the outside. Every “normal” guy asks the girl what she is doing. Hayden didn’t know how to say it right.
One text Hayden sent was “What are you doing right now!”
Now that text seems harmless because he showed our group the conversation. Maggie however took it another way and everything that Chase and I built fell apart. Maggie decided to no longer go with Hayden. So without Chase and I knowing, Julia decided Chase would go with Maggie and Hayden was rightfully upset because he thought Chase took Maggie from him. Hayden then had an argument with Maggie that just made things worse for him. Nikki and I tried our best to keep Hayden calm till prom came around and tried to get him to be friends with Chase again. Eventually they made up and the rest of the month continued normally.
May 5, 2019, it was finally prom and all the events that happened before would finally come to its great conclusion. Chase and Nikki went to Julia’s house for pictures and I went to someone else’s house to take pictures with my prom date. Hayden and a friend took their pictures at Hayden’s house. Once we all got to The Waterfall, all of us with prom dates sat a table together. Prom was fun for all of us because it was the first one we ever went to. Chase followed Julia around like a puppy. Nikki and I invented a new dance move called the lawnmower. All of us went to Julia's afterwards for those that wanted to. Hayden showed up because he wanted to apologize to Maggie for what happened.
Maggie said with anger, “You’re not allowed to be here, get the fuck out of of here.”
“Dude what the hell,” an irritated Hayden responded.
Nikki and I hid behind a car and saw what happened between them. At the door stood one of Julia’s relatives and once Hayden saw he got in his car and went back to his house. He spent his night playing video games and watching movies and for everyone else, we went in Julia’s hot tub. Moral of the story is never be afraid to ask for help from either your family or friends. Hayden did not do that and he paid the price for it. After all of this Hayden branded Chase as a “fake friend” for being Maggie’s prom date as a joke that still goes on to this very day.
