Is a possible plan for space colonization such an ordinary idea? On the contrary, it is not, there has been recent talk of a possible space colonization and the details such a mission would entail. Space colonization could promote the longevity of the human species. If a natural disaster occured and destroyed major resources that are essential for our population to live, space could be a good plan b to relocate and access the resources that would be available from a possible space colonization. If a natural disaster wiped out the essential resources humans need for survival, space would be a good alternative to relocate the human race to survive and thrive in space colonizations. As predicted from Stephen Hawking, that without a possible colonization of space, the human race could become extinct in the next thousand years. The finitude of Earth and the growing population of the human species, will be a factor in the extinction of the human race and a colonization to space will increase our chances from going extinct.

Another hard to ignore advantage that would come out of a space colonization is the extensive resources space offers. The resources are enormous, which could provide for a larger human population, than the Earth can satisfy today. Asteroid mining would be the most beneficial resource for humans to take advantage of. Asteroid mining allows for numerous advantages ranging from water and shielding materials that are essential for making structures. Furthermore, asteroid mining is beneficial for establishing fuel stations to ease the process of space transportation between other planets; the propellant found in asteroids would save up to $100 billion dollars, for utilizing the resources asteroids provide. Along with asteroid mining, solar energy would be a beneficial resource to harvest as well. In order to fuel the resources a space colony demands, solar energy will be able to fuel life support, communications, and research in the primary space colonizations. Solar energy would be the primary energy source in fueling a life support system which would recycle nutrients in order to sustain human life. Nuclear submarines have been introduced in the past as a possible life support mechanism; nuclear submarines functioning by utilizing sea water to extract oxygen in order for humans to carry out respiration. If a similar technological contraption was brought to space, scientists would have to find a resource to replace the seawater nuclear submarines previously used. When this resource is discovered and resembling submarines are brought to space, it could possibly be a set up for the first space colony.

Migrating to space could potentially have a positive factor on the current overpopulation dilemma we’re currently facing here on Earth, a limitation in resources. A possible migration to space would offer resources that would allow viable life supporting colonies to be built. Off planet colonies would be able to benefit from extraterrestrial resources, which would satisfy the planet’s resource requirements. With the extensive availability of resources from solar energy and extraterrestrial resources, the human race population of we know it can nearly double in a different environment with such viable resources available.
