Many people struggle with mental health related issues and other day altering diseases, although there are many treatments, pet adoption is one way of relief which is highly underestimated.

Personally, when I have gone through a phase of depression and loneliness, pet adoption was a great form of relief which helped to alleviate the struggle I was going through.

The mental health foundation has a resourceful page on the many ways in which pet adoption can be a substantial form of treatment. To learn more, visit https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/a-to-z/p/pets-and-mental-health .

A study conducted to measure the effectiveness of animal therapy on depressed individuals started out by giving 50 males a questionnaire to evaluate their depression levels. They were then split into three groups for their method of therapy; conventional, pet-facilitated, and no treatment.

The results showed that the social interactions were doubled for the subjects who received pet-facilitated treatment. Also, during experiments where the subject felt depressed or anxious, they turned to animals for help.

For more information on case studies, the novel written by Odean Cusack “Pets and Mental Health,” gives an extremely resourceful guide.

There are many organizations and researchers currently discussing this matter. Mental health issues and related diseases are extremely present in today's society. Since there are many people exposed to these issues, looking into pet adoption is definitely a great option.

After taking a deep dive into how pet adoption can really be a great form of treatment, it is clear how much of a difference they can make. The standardized treatment methods are definitely sufficient, but pet adoption needs to be classified as another method.

If you know someone who is struggling with mental health related issues or diseases; such as ADHD, you can get involved by promoting pet adoption! By adopting a pet, you are saving their life and benefiting your own.
