When you receive negative feedback that you don’t like, what do you guys do? With my life I get very competitive when receiving negative feedback, I use that and push my body harder to prove to that person they are wrong, I never give up on something I want. Throughout my childhood my dream was always to play Division 1 softball, I worked hard every single day no matter the weather. In the softball word, athletes typically commit to a school/ get recruited at a very young age, for example, 13 years old. Which is a very hard thing to understand because you need to think of where you want to, the major you want to study and much more. It's very stressful but with a supportive dad like mine, it made the first go around very easy. To get the highest college looks being on a national level team like I was, really gets the coaches attention, all college coaches know the topic organizations names as well as the coaches name. Growing up, I played on a travel team out of Georgia, being on that team showed people that I had the ability to go to a division 1 level for softball. I was facing girls on the USA junior national team, players from Washington, Florida, Alabama, but many more top schools. When I began looking at schools, I went to camps to get the coaches attention due to the fact we are not allowed to communicate until September 1st of our junior year. After this time had passed, I began receiving scholarship offers, I was so excited to receive news like this to show how hard I’ve worked. My dad and I have a very tight relationship when it comes to softball, each night I’ll get him yelling “Hey Lex, time to go hit” I would smile with excitement when hearing those words. After September 1st, I received news that my scholarship was taken due to the new coaching change, I thought my dreams were over. After a day or so of not thinking I was good enough, I used that negative comment and pushed myself to the max, working out, hitting off the tee, concentrating on school and much more to earn my scholarship back and prove to them that they were wrong for taking. Hours, days, and months go by and I recommit to the University of Delaware on a scholarship, after a very stressful and aggravating couple of months. Here I am today a freshman at the University of Delaware majoring in Criminal Justice, while being a division 1 athlete, going into my third week of school being very successful and working hard even during this pandemic. Don't ever give up, you can be successful and in my shoes at anytime.
