First Car Accident

When you are first learning to drive, everybody tells you that you will end up in a car accident. Nobody ever listens but you probably should because, and as much as I hate to say it, you probably will get into an accident, and if you listen you probably won't be as surprised as I definitely was.
For my sister and me, it was a regular Thursday morning. It was March 5th, a nice day outside, good weather, and one of those days you don't feel like getting into an accident was on your schedule. It was around 7:10 am, and we were well on our way to school. On our way to the school, I made the same right turn I take every day on to Manetto Hill road. Manetto Hill Road is the main road that has a large strip mall that stretches from the street we turn on to the next intersection. The road has a tight curve, so the speed limit is set at 35 mph because people are always following the speed limit, right?
I was in the left lane, and in front of me in the right lane, was this big yellow Jeep. At this moment we were in front of the mall, and because the Jeep was in front of me I couldn't see the parking entrance to the mall, nor the cars coming out of the lot. All of a sudden, I turn to see the Jeep stop almost instantly. As I was asking myself why I turned to see a massive Lincoln Navigator trying to turn into his left lane. He didn't see me, and I barely had time to put my foot on the brakes. I hit him at 48 mph, and his massive truck brought my regular sized 2015 Honda Accord to a complete stop.
The airbags went off, and at that moment, I froze. My heart was racing, and I couldn't feel anything. I sat there. All I saw was the smoke coming from the hood of my car. My hands are still on the steering wheel. My sister started to yell.
"Get out of the car," she said.
"Get out, Get out, Get out," she repeated.
I was still mentally stuck in that spot. All I could think about was that there was a possibility I could have just disabled somebody for life, or worse.
"Get out of the car!" she screamed to make sure I was listening as she climbed out of her side, where the door was almost completely torn off.
I finally came to and realized what had just happened. I really did just get into a car accident. My phone had fallen somewhere, and I started to look for it. As my sister started to call my mom, I called the police. Luckily the other driver did come out of his car. I turned around to see that my first car had been totaled. The windshield was partially cracked, smoke was coming from the hood, and it looked as though the engine was almost completely caved in. The door on my sister's side looked like it was going to fall off. We were lucky enough that the SUV hit us on an angle where neither my sister nor I were directly hit, nor put in a position where we could be fatally injured.
A couple of minutes later, the police and my mom show up. My mom had this look on her face, that look, the one that makes you think; that is it, I'm done. In my case, I thought I was never going to drive again. She came up to us and asked if we were ok. When we and my sister both responded yes, I asked if she was mad. She said no, and as long as we were ok she wasn't mad. My car ended up being completely totaled, and the next weekend my dad and I started looking for a new car.
